These put some Asian flavor into regular Sloppy Joes. I usually make these with turkey burger, but regular beef is fine too! Barb L.
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
1 pound turkey burger or beef hamburger
½ Tbsp Flying Olive Garlic, Chipotle, Harissa, or Cayenne Red Chili Extra Virgin Olive Oil, or a Combination (we‘re wimpy so I mix Garlic EVOO with Chipotle EVOO)
½ cup chopped onion
4 minced garlic cloves
¼ cup water
¼ cup hoisin sauce
2 Tbsp ketchup
½ Tbsp Flying Olive Honey Ginger Balsamic Vinegar
0-2 tsp Sriracha chili sauce, your choice of spiciness
¼ tsp salt
4 whole wheat hamburger buns and/or Bibb lettuce wraps for serving
Cabbage and carrot shreds, if desired, for garnish
Directions:
Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the Flying Olive EVOO of Choice. When the oil begins to shimmer, add the ground meat, onion, and garlic. Cook 5 -8 minutes until the meat has crumbled. Stir in the water, hoisin sauce, ketchup, Honey Ginger Balsamic Vinegar, Sriracha chili sauce (if desired), and salt. Cook for 3 minutes until the sauce is slightly thickened.
Divide the mixture among 4 hamburger buns (we use lettuce for wrapping them instead). Sprinkle with carrots and cabbage shreds, if desired. Serve.
